Ha! Writing is child's play!

Story ideas will sneak up and bite you anywhere and anytime. Case in point would be today for me.

I was sitting in a play area in the pretty mall (3-story, multiple escalators, fabulous window displays and a great play area/food court) watching my youngest running around. As she began to interact with another child, an idea for a story came to me. I watched her, felt my jaw drop for a moment and my eyes glazed over. I poked my husband (a little hard I think) and asked him for his phone (his is more PDA than mine). He didn't have it, so I informed him to ignore the long text he was going to be getting from me. Like some kind of manic texting teenager, my fingers flew across the keypads. Typos were abundant but I didn't slow to fix them as I might normally do. I got so excited! I don't know if it will be a kid's book, but there is the distinct possiblity that it will be. It's funny, because I feel like I have been searching for a children's book to write for some time. I wanted something new and different that still fell to my primary genre of fiction. Suddenly, it was just there. Of course! Exactly! Perfect!

I feel that much more of this story will come to me via brainstorming and random acts of description, but I'm excited. I don't plan to abandon the novel I'm writing now, don't get me wrong, but I may be bouncing between books. Hey, I've read more than one book at a time before, so no biggie, right? I'm thinking morning/lunch for the new story and evening sessions for the work in progress. Oooooh! I'm so excited! Yay!

  2. Thanks, hun. Right now is the brainstorm and play mode to see where this is going. I'm waiting for that moment that something just flies out and gets me to tell me about something significant. Lets hope! 8)
